We are happy to introduce our March Patient of the Month, Kathryn Bourgeois. Kathryn came to us after tearing her right ACL during a soccer game. As a student athlete, Kathryn says that she can now do everything that she was able to do prior to her injury. “I injured my knee in May of 2017 and as a freshman in high school in August of 2018, I made the high school junior varsity soccer team at North Kingstown as the starting goalie. I moved up to Varsity at the end of the year. I am running 1000M and 1500M races in the high school indoor track and plan on either playing softball or outdoor track in the Spring. So I am doing everything I was pre-injury thanks to Kristi and OrthoCore!”
Kathryn’s treatment here at OrthoCore entailed bike work, weight and mobility training, and resistance work. In addition to the work in the clinic, we also assigned leg lifts, single leg, dead-lifts, step ups, leg extensions, and door stretches in the morning for Kathryn to do at home.
“The work that OrthoCore did with me on the rehab of my ACL was incredible. I had normal soreness, but nothing like the pain I had originally at the time of my injury. In addition, I suffered a strained patella during one of my first soccer games back which set me back a good four months. It was not until Kristi at OrthoCore recommended dry-needling that my new injury improved and I no longer have any pain,” Kathryn said.
When we asked her about what she enjoyed the most about her treatment her at OrthoCore, Kathryn listed her favorite things. “Kristi was my main therapist and she made the hard work bearable. She pushed me and made sure that I went home each time with things to do at home and to make sure that I knew that if I didn’t do what she asked at home that I wouldn’t get better. I was going stir crazy and wanted to run so bad that I made sure I followed her guidance. I know that she cared about me and wanted me to get better.”
While Kathryn is back to her sports routine, she says that if she needs to in the future, she will be back at OrthoCore. “Kristi is the first PT I have ever been to and I can’t imagine going to anyone else and recommend her to all of the friends. You will get honest advice and excellent care as well as having some fun. They will work you hard but keep reminding you why you are working so hard and why you want to go through the pain so you can get back to the sports you love and play at the same level or better.”
Thank you, Kathryn, for being such a great patient! We wish you success in all of your sports.
